3 Days.
Marrakech.
Marrakech.
The Merzouga Desert, home to Erg Chebbi, is one of Morocco’s most remarkable landscapes. Golden sand dunes stretch endlessly, creating a surreal and breathtaking panorama.
This desert offers a tranquil and enchanting atmosphere, ideal for experiencing the Sahara in a truly authentic way. The dunes shift gently with the wind, producing unique shapes and light patterns, particularly at sunrise and sunset. It’s a perfect setting for camel rides, stargazing, and soaking in an atmosphere of peaceful tour.
– Your trip begins by leaving behind the lively streets of Marrakech to cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, enjoy sweeping views of lush forests, towering peaks, and endless horizons. Small traditional Berber villages dot the route.
Descending the mountains, you’ll reach Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site that seems to rise directly from the desert sands. Featured in films like Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Lawrence of Arabia, its fortified structures overlook a rocky desert valley, offering breathtaking views.
Continue to Ouarzazate, the largest Berber city in southern Morocco, often nicknamed the “Hollywood of Africa” due to its famous studios. Spend the night in the stunning Dades Gorges.
– Leave the red valleys of Dades to visit the Todra Gorge, a striking canyon carved into saffron-colored rock that stretches for hundreds of meters. Explore on foot or by car along the river that runs through the gorge.
The tour continues to Merzouga, passing ever-changing scenery: red mountains, lush palm groves, and rocky desert gradually giving way to the soft golden dunes of the Sahara. Stop at Erfoud, the fossil capital, and Rissani, famous for its bustling southern market.
Upon arrival in Merzouga, switch to camels for the final stretch to your desert camp. Watch the sunset over the dunes, enjoy a traditional Berber dinner, and listen to local music beneath the stars.
– Wake early to witness the magical desert sunrise. After breakfast and a freshen-up, return by camel to Merzouga. The journey back to Marrakech takes you through the Draa Valley, with its vast palm groves, before reaching Ouarzazate and visiting the famous Kasbah Taourirt. Crossing the Atlas Mountains once more, you’ll enjoy spectacular mountain vistas before descending to the plains and arriving in Marrakech by late afternoon.
